  • You could save your own life if you are proactive, a timley diagnosis is key to treatment given, the earlier the better.  We are all anxious when we are told we need to see a specialist.  You know your own body better than anyone else, therefore if you are unhappy with your specialist (for whatever reason) you are entitled to a second opinion - maybe you felt that you had been 'fobbed off', maybe you felt you were not listened to, maybe you are in pain but it does not seem to have been addressed, then speak to your GP.  You are entitled to ask for a referral to another specialist, it is your right as a patient under the patient code of rights.  You might have to wait a little longer, you might have to travel to another hospital - but it is preferable to having a misdiagnosis or no diagnosis at all.  Be proactive.
