More trouble in the DHBs, and groundbreaking work

The CEO of the Waikato DHB has resigned.  An interesting saga involving excessive expenses.  He had been under investigation.

Ian Powell, the executive director of Association of Salaried Medical Specialists says he had never seen the people on the ground in health, including the doctors he represents, under such pressure due to their workloads.  He described moves my Counties Manukau DHB to over redundancy as "bonkers".

At Middlemore they are doing some groundbreaking work on restoring faces for people suffering from facial paralysis caused by a variety of problems.

Professor Louise Nicholson (retired) has been nominated for a Making A Difference Award for her work on spinal cord injuries at this year's Attitude Awards. She believes Kiwi researchers are on the cusp of a cure, and has donated a million dollars towards research.

A bright young man from Otago University,  Dr Aniruddha Chatterjee, has been awarded an $800,000 Rutherford Discovery Fellowship to continue his work into how cancer metastases.  This is the sort of research that in the long term, could revolutionise survival in cancer.
