Each Monday we update you with our latest activity from the Head & Neck Cancer Survivors' Support Network.
Last week we were busy with the website. There are still some performance issues, and sometimes we have difficulty with access. The good news is we received prompt action from our service provider, and we hope you did not notice a blip.
We are working on improving the information and support to our community. We are fortunate that the launch of our Network and website coincided with an Australian initiative. Beyond Five is a not for profit organisation supporting people with head and neck cancer. https://www.beyondfive.org.au/About-Beyond-Five.aspx They have excellent resources, including videos, and 3D models. We think this will be of great value to our community.
On Thursday morning we held our monthly Auckland Support Group meeting at Domain Lodge. The meeting is a great opportunity to catch up with friends and meet new people. Our speaker, Dr Kim Gear, Oral Medicine Specialist from the Oral Health Service gave a very informative presentation. I updated the group on our fundraising and new website. I shared my presentation from the recent Head & Neck Scientific Meeting in Auckland.
At the end of the week, we are flat tack on our newsletter. You might like to know how we work. We work over a period of two weeks. We use Google Drive's, Google docs to create an online document. This is usually a copy of the last month's newsletter. We strip out all the old information, and start working on the new one. We work online, editing collaboratively until we are happy with the draft. We then download, do the final formatting, create a PDF and send it out to you. It is a great deal of fun working in this way. If you would like to be part of it, please let us know. We are genuinely seeking contributors. If you feel you might need a bit of help with working this way, we are great teachers. So feel free to ask for help.
We will update you again next Monday.
