Piecing Us Together Again
In our community, we face a profound gap in the care journey for those recovering from Head and Neck Cancer. Many patients who undergo life-saving treatments are left with disfiguring side effects, yet there is no reliable or affordable path to access facial prosthetics or oral rehabilitation. These services are essential to restoring dignity, function, and quality of life. The lack of survivorship care leaves many to navigate life with physical and emotional burdens that are entirely preventable. It's unacceptable that individuals who have survived cancer are left without the support to reclaim their lives truly.
Your resilience and courage in the face of challenges inspire us every day. We know that for many, the journey through treatment has not been matched by the quality of post-treatment rehabilitation and reconstruction that you deserve. In our work to improve support for those affected by Head and Neck Cancer, it has become clear that positive outcomes with oral and maxillofacial rehabilitation remain too rare.
Yet, this is a call to action. We are committed to advocating for better standards of care, more comprehensive options, and more accessible pathways to the support needed after treatment. We believe that everyone battling this disease deserves a full and fulfilling life beyond it—one that restores confidence and well-being.
Change is on the horizon, and we are dedicated to pushing forward for a future where every patient can access compassionate, effective, and life-enhancing rehabilitation. Together, we will create a network of support, resources, and advocacy that will make a difference. Thank you for your strength, your patience, and your unwavering spirit. We are here for you, and we are fighting for the care you deserve.
In 2022 Dr Martin Batstone, from Australia, talked to our Head and Neck Cancer community about the developing treatments, reconstruction, and rehabilitation options for those affected by head and neck cancer.
